So, last weeks shoot didn't work out exactly as expected. But with problems comes resolutions and sometimes the resolution just feel more like the way things should have been in the first place.
Gary (Window Cleaner) was unable to make it out due to a Job Call. So instead of sitting around until 5:00, my friend Alex and I drove down to my brothers place. My brother Miles is a (Musician) and I had planed to use him as one of the subjects in the film later on in Principle of Photography, but I wasn't just gonna waist the day away so we started shooting with with my brother in Hyde Park at about 12:40pm.
Miles' section of the introduction was completely spare of the moment, we were in the middle of walking across the street when I powered on the camera and began filming. Miles purchased a Veggie Sub, Chips and a Drink then we drove back up to my place where the eating scene was filmed.
After filming Miles explained to the camera what he thought about while eating and we definitely captured some very natural and interesting monologue.
Miles will also be doing score for the film "Thoughts from From" just as soon as we move in and out of post.
We finished up with Miles no later then about 3:25pm, then drove around listening to music for a while before meeting up with Carl down on Congress and 6th at 5:00pm. I filmed Carl walking from 11th and Congress down to 7th and Congress and up about a block up 7th where he purchased Thai food.
Carl and I then drove up to my place where I met up with Alex where we filmed Carl eating his Thai and explaining his "Thoughts from Food".
Happy to say that the first of the Video Blog Making of series is almost finished and will be posted on both www.myspace.com/maxwellboys, www.youtube.com/unstandard and many more by Sunday 2nd.
Tomorrow is Saturday the 1st I will be shooting with Gary (The Window Cleaner) at about 5:00pm.
Thank you and Be well,

"Thoughts from Food" Movie Update 6
People of the world,
We have just scheduled one person to shoot Saturday at 12:00pm, his name is Gary and he is a (window cleaner.) I have been anticipating the shoot with Gary for some time and am super happy about Saturday.
I first met Gary on the bus one morning heading into town, he seemed very interesting to me from the day I met him. He is a very tall, older black male wearing a nice clean suit, a cowboy hat, he had a toothpick in his mouth and a he spoke with a very heavy southern drawl. He sat next to me on the bus and talked about world news. I think the first thing he told me was that Russia had attacked Georgia.

Now I never watch or read the news and am almost always out of the loop on big worldly things that
are happening, so that came as quite the surprise and I thought he may have been crazy.

I later found out that it was a different Georgia, and felt a bit dumb. But I never forget about Gary.

I saw he the next couple weeks on the bus and this was before I got into "Thoughts from Food," I saw him couple times after starting pre-pro. and once just waiting at the bus stop. I asked him if he'd be interested in being part of a film and he was 100% in from the start.

I 'm still waiting for Melanie (Hairdresser) to get back to me about shooting 5:00pm Saturday and will let everyone know about how everything goes after Saturdays shooting as soon as I know.
Thank you and Be well,
Joshua Maxwell

"Thoughts from Food" Movie Update 5
I just got my new business cards printed for "Thoughts from Food", I have my personal info on the front side next to a leafless tree and on the backside is a brief description of the film, with the web URL to my blogs written below.
I have abut 500 printed and along with that I purchased a long horn pass to this years Austin Film Festival, so I will be passing along the "Thoughts from Food" info like mad this week.
Once again, this project is collecting nothing but good news and I am feeling amazing.
Thank You and Be Well,

"Thoughts from Food" Movie Update 4
I engaged in some good one on one talks with the camera these past couple of days and gathered some really great footage for the behind this scenes series. I have postponed the posting of the actual series for a couple of weeks so as not to give out too much to soon. It won't be much of a spoiler, just a brief sneak peeks dedicated to each significant chapter of the film.

I will begin capturing and cutting some of the behind the scenes footage tonight so as to get a head start and there will be no shooting this weekend, so I'll have a little extra time to edit over the weekend. Everything is still moving along better then planed and I'm going to continue posting these blogs, so don't stop reading.

Be well,
Joshua Maxwell

"Thoughts from Food" Movie Update 3
The weekend of the 11th has come and gone, and after a long week of working two of my three jobs, Greenpeace and The Movie Store, followed by a long Saturday of shooting, "Thoughts from Food."
I have got three days in the cann now and am only two subjects shy of the half way point in principle of photography.

Saturday was a big day at 10:30 I took a bus downtown to the library to print up some release forms, then walked to the corner of Lamar 6th street where I would meet up with Rebecca (The Yoga Instructors) and E.J. (Camera Op) at 12:00pm to begin shooting Rebecca's sequence of the films introduction and her food purchase which was a very interesting shot, mainly because I had not already shot in the same area for both Kristi (The Dancer) and Sharon (The Massage) and had managed to shoot on separate sides of the street for the two of them, but was now forced to shoot down an area of the street that I hadn't seen or been down .

After walking in the new direction for a few blocks I knew that it was the place to shoot, there were trees just about every 10-15 steps with long arm like branches that cast sharp shadows and large leafy frames over the side walk. Once the camera was turned on, we rolled on a couple of listed shots, and while shooting an M.S. (Medium Shot) Rebecca got a bit ahead of the camera and walked out of frame. I signaled to E.J. to follow her and continue rolling and at that moment I was able to see just how much the colors Rebecca was wearing fell into the frame that the trees cast, only a few seconds of that happy mistake are usable, but I am happy to have them.

After shooting rebecca's food purchase, we traveled up to my place at 8600 N. Lamar Blvd where we continued onto her eating sequence.Which I felt also turned out to be a great success. We finished with Rebecca at about 3:40pm, E.J. and I picked up a pizza next store, we ate, chilled for a bit and watched some dailies as we waited for Rev. Russell Minton to arrive.

Russell told me he wanted to do all his shooting in the N. Lamar area which made things really easy for me and E.J.. I had already shot Hershal (The Bellhops) scenes up in the same area.
The difference was, when I shot with Hershal, we were facing the building.

So when I shot with Russel I had the camera facing out toward traffic, with made for a good pace change and also some good contrast in foreground and background speed.

We shot Russell's food purchase, then moved onto his eating sequence, he definitely had a way with him while he was eating, he was fairly quicker then the rest of the subjects thus far, and when we begun recording his thoughts I knew there where definitely some incredibly thought provoking in going on in his head, thoughts that not only brought me to the verge of tears and had me heavily questioning why I feel the why I feel during eating but made me feel like a patient visiting my psychiatrist.

The things that I have heard during the process of recording this film have really begun to bring notice to things about myself and I greatly appreciate everybody involved in this film for being so bold and honest to the camera. I really believe that by making this film together we are all a part of something great.

"Thoughts from Food" Movie Update 2
Day 2 of shooting "Thoughts from Food" on Thursday Oct 9th, was surprisingly amusing.
All of Thursdays shoot took place in North Austin, on N. Lamar Blvd, After meeting with E.J. the films Camera Operator and Hershal (The Bellhop) in Downtown Austin, we all took a bus up to my place on N. Lamar Blvd, where we set up the lights, backdrops and props for the interior scenes that would be shot later on.
The three of us then took of on foot up N. Lamar and filmed some hand held shots of Hershal (The Bellhop) as he walked along the sidewalk to the corner store where he would purchase the amusing meal of whole milk and cookies.

During Thursdays exteriors we managed to make a good amount of street credit and publicity from Construction Workers, Pizza Delivery Drivers, and Families that would be driving up N. Lamar and turn around out of there way to see what we were shooting.
Our Behind the scenes camera operator will not be available till next weekend, Saturday and Sunday Oct 18th and 19th, So all of the background footage up until that point has and will be gathered by either myself during filming or by E.J. during breaks in the filming. So far we have gathered a good amount of conversing between myself and the films subjects along with some footage of E.J. Oping both interior and exterior shots.

This is the first time I am working on one of my films where I haven't been operating the camera for all the major areas of each scene, like on my first film "Mirrored" and also on "End All Beginnings," I've always been a bit of a loner when it came to shooting.

Now after what we have shot for "Thoughts from Food" up to this point I am really becoming more open about my work and grateful for the other few necessary positions that should be used when working on something that is of importance to not only you but to the people in the film.
After getting our exteriors out of the way we moved into my apartment and filmed the eating scene with Hershal, which had me rolling inside as he ate with ear phones on, head bobbing, reading and dunking cookies as it turned out to be the most interesting thus far.
With each subject I shoot I become more and more connected to this idea, I have only shot two days and already I feel more inspired by these people then in any other project I have ever been a part of.
Tomorrow, Oct 11th, at 12:00noon we will begin filming scenes with Rebecca (The Yoga Instructor) and at about 5:00pm Russell (The Reverend.)

I am still shooting to have the first episode of the making of "Thoughts from Food" streaming by the 18th and can't stress more the importance of you subscribing and keeping yourself up to date on this film.
Thank you and Be well,
Joshua Maxwell

"Thoughts from Food" Movie Update
The Austin film "Thoughts from Food", takes an unbiased look at the thoughts that arise in the minds of 12 ordinary people while they eat a meal of there choice purchased by the films Writer/Director Joshua Maxwell.
The film is now in progress and has 2 of the 12 subjects shot. The first two subject Kristi a Topless Dancer and Sharon a Massage Therapist from Austin, Tx were filmed on Saturday Oct. 4, 2008 with Panasonic's AG-HVX200 while purchasing and eating the meal of there choice, each meal was then dubbed by the subject explaining to the Director what he or she thinks about while they eat.

So far the thoughts have have been honest, personal, deep, and emotional, for the most they have left me absolutely speechless and dieing to continue on with this project.

you can be expecting the first of at least 12 online podcast as early as Oct. 18, 2008 that will give you a visual update on the progress of the film and a basic idea of some ways we are going about making the film, starting with some areas of pre-production. Tomorrow Thursday Oct. 9, 2008 at 2:00pm I will begin shooting with Hershal the films Bellhop who is also living in Austin, Tx.
I could not be happier with the progress and outcome of the film thus far and I whole heartily believe that it is in you're best interest to subscribe to this post.
Thank you for reading.

Be Well,
